Mix-up leads to bridge jams

SCORES of motorists were caught up in huge traffic jams on the Forth Road Bridge at the weekend after the FETA mobile website, phone line and text messaging service provided wrong information.

Drivers were informed that there were only short delays on the bridge. However, essential works meant the southbound carriageway was closed, leading to delays of almost two hours.

Chief engineer and bridgemaster Barry Colford apologised for the technical hitch.
