Mitchell 'has fears for his life in prison'

Killer Luke Mitchell fears for his life and has pleaded to be moved to a new prison, it was reported today.

Mitchell, who was jailed for at least 20 years for the murder of 14-year-old Jodi Jones in Dalkeith in 2003, reported sick five times in one day and is racked with worry over being attacked in Shotts Prison.

A source said he fears for his life and begged prison staff to be moved to another jail. A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: "We cannot comment on individual prisoners."

Mitchell has been told his case will be looked at by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission, which probes alleged miscarriages of justice.

The move comes just three months after judges rejected a plea by Mitchell's QC Gordon Jackson to reopen his appeal.

The Review Commission will now appoint a legal officer to investigate the case.
