Missing mum is not woman in CCTV image

POLICE today said that a woman caught on CCTV who they believed may have been a missing mother-of-three who vanished four months ago has been ruled out from their inquiry.

Last month, officers released an image that they thought may have been Betty Brown, taken outside Sainsbury's in Deanhaugh Street, Stockbridge.

Family members of the missing 55-year-old were shown the image and believed that there was a genuine likeness to Mrs Brown, who was last seen on May 28.

It is now understood that family members have spoken to police again and expressed their belief that the woman is not Mrs Brown.

Police have still not traced the woman from the CCTV image, but they said they were no longer actively seeking her.

A police spokesman said: "We would appeal again to anyone with information on Betty's whereabouts to come forward."

Mrs Brown, from Gorgie, was last seen wearing a black jacket, open-neck blouse, blue jeans and black shoes.

She is around 5ft 7in tall, with fair hair, and glasses.
