South Queensferry and Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team were called out, along with an RNLI inshore lifeboat, a Royal Navy rescue helicopter and police.

But they failed to find Mr Gibson, who lived in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Officers from Central Scotland police searched the river again yesterday but without success.

Meanwhile, the body of a man who disappeared after leaving a city pub on Friday has been pulled from the River Clyde in Glasgow.

Paul Welsh, 39, was last seen with his uncle leaving the Tollbooth in the Saltmarket area at around 8pm that night.
