Missing diver’s family told of discovery of body

THE family of a missing scallop diver in Orkney have been told of the discovery of a body.

Divers from Grampian Police underwater search unit recovered the remains from the water at London Bay off Isle of Eday.

Roderick MacLean, 33, failed to surface from a dive in the area in March.

Police were called to the scene following the report of a possible sighting of a body on Wednesday.

Divers recovered the body just after lunchtime on Thursday.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said that the family of Mr MacLean, from Finstown in Orkney, had been informed of the circumstances.

He added: “Formal identification of the remains has not yet taken place and this may take some time. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
