Ministers 'call in' school closures

Ministers have "called in" proposals by Western Isles Council to close two primary schools and end S1 and S2 provision at two further schools because of flaws in the consultation process.

The council plans to close eight primaries and end S1-S2 provision at three schools.

Closure proposals for Carloway and Shelibost primaries and the closure of S1-S2 provision at Lionel and Shawbost Schools have now been called in.

The council's decision to close six other primary schools and the S1-S2 provision at another school have not been called in as ministers considered that the correct process had been followed.
