Ministers and priests take swing at sectarianism

KIRK ministers and Catholic priests will take each other on in an unusual golfing match tomorrow - all in the cause of anti-sectarianism.

Two teams with a total of 24 players are being brought together for the game, which is sponsored by the Edinburgh-based Newgate Motoring Solutions, suppliers of cars to the clergy.

The Church of Scotland team includes Edinburgh ministers the Rev John Munro, from Fairmilehead Parish Church, the Rev George Whyte, from Colinton, and the Rev John Chalmers from Kirk headquarters at 121 George Street.

Among those in the Catholic team are city priests Father Alex Davie and Father Sandy Mitchell. The match at Kilmacolm Golf Club, Renfrewshire, follows the recent visit to the Old Firm match by Church of Scotland Moderator the Rt Rev Alan McDonald and Cardinal Keith O'Brien.
