Ministers accept savings suggestions

National Insurance cards are to be scrapped and spare Whitehall furniture sold online as part of efforts to tackle the budget deficit, it was revealed.

The moves, which could save 2 million a year, came after ministers asked the public to suggest efficiency savings.
