Minister to learn about Curriculum

EDUCATION Secretary Michael Russell was set find out how St Augustine's High in Edinburgh is putting Curriculum for Excellence into practice during a visit to the school.

Mr Russell was set mark the start of the 2010/2011 term in the Capital - the first in which the new curriculum is in action in secondary schools - by meeting staff and pupils at St Augustine's yesterday.

During his visit he wanted to learn about efforts to link up learning across subject areas and find out how the school was adapting to the new curriculum.

Mr Russell said: "I know schools across the country have been making great progress in developing Curriculum for Excellence and I am looking forward to finding out more about the approach being taken in St Augustine's RC High.

"By working to link up learning across subject areas and bring a new focus on the skills young people need we can make sure they are prepared for the jobs of the future.

"This is what Curriculum for Excellence is designed to achieve and that's why I believe it offers a real opportunity to improve our education system."
