Minister sees addicts LEAP to sobriety

Drugs Minister Fergus Ewing was today visiting an abstinence programme which is helping addicts in Lothian become drug and alcohol-free.

The LEAP project, based at Malta House in Stockbridge, was one of five pilots funded by the Scottish Government to test new approaches towards helping more people lead drug-free lives.

Mr Ewing said: "We want recovery to be the aim of all drug treatment and rehabilitation services. The LEAP project is an excellent example of a project helping people to recover from substance misuse problems.

"I first visited here two years ago and I am delighted to be returning to hear from all those involved in making this project successful - and particularly from the service users themselves."

The project offers addicts an intensive, three-month programme offering medical care, self-help, housing and vocational training.
