Metal thieves in rail trouble

RAIL bosses have joined forces with British Transport Police (BTP) in a bid to combat metal thefts, after a 226 per cent rise in the number of incidents during the past year.

The BTP said cables and metal thieves were responsible for delays to thousands of rail passengers every week.

Chief Superintendent Ellie Bird, Scottish area commander for BTP, said: "Metal theft has had an enormous impact on the rail passengers across the UK."
