Meningitis is for all seasons

LOTHIANS residents have been told to ignore the myth that meningitis is a winter illness.

Charities are concerned that locals become complacent about the risk during summer months because of misconceptions that the disease is seasonal. In fact, some strains are more common during hot weather.

Mary Millar, the Meningitis Research Foundation's manager in Scotland, said: "Don't be complacent during the summer."
