Memorial Christmas tree to sparkle

A 40-FOOT Christmas tree in Charlotte Square Gardens is set to have its lights switched on despite the snowy weather.

The St Columba's Hospice Light a Light fundraising memorial event will see businessman Sir Tom Farmer switch on the 5000 lights at 6.30pm on Monday.

Senior fundraising manager Mairi Rosko said: "Our tree isn't any ordinary Christmas tree because every one of the lights has been dedicated to the memory of a loved one. It's a very special and sacred moment for people when they see the lights switched on."
