Mel Gibson charged with assault

LOS Angeles prosecutors have charged Mel Gibson with "misdemeanour battery" - assault - in connection with a fight last year involving his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

The Academy Award-winner was charged over the incident involving the Russian musician.

A person familiar with the case has said Gibson is expected to accept a plea deal and not have to serve any time in jail.
