Megrahi protests innocence

THE only man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing again protested his innocence as Scotland’s law chief pledged to “find the answers” victims’ families have been waiting for.

In what he said was his final interview, published today, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi reiterated his claim that he was not involved in the bombings.

Megrahi said the interview would be the last he gave before his death.

In it, the Libyan said: “I am an innocent man. I am about to die and I ask now to be left in peace with my family.”

Scotland’s Lord Advocate, Frank Mulholland, today said he would continue the hunt for justice for the families.

He said: “I think I would be failing in my duty if I didn’t properly seek to take advantage of the opportunity that has opened up with the fall of Gaddafi.”
