Meeting planned over waste plant move

THE next event in a series of public consultation exercises into plans for a multi-million-pound waste treatment plant is set to be held next week.

Plans are set to be lodged within weeks for the huge waste incinerator, which would heat homes by burning Edinburgh and Midlothian's rubbish.

The two councils are expected to submit a planning application next month detailing proposals to convert an old railyard at the Monktonhall colliery in Midlothian, which was bought for 2 million.

Councillor Russell Imrie said: "It is important we hear what our residents are saying."

The meeting is on Tuesday, 6pm, at Danderhall Community Centre.
