Meerkat song is internet hit

A QUIRKY music video by a city bassist has been launched online and has already notched up hundreds of hits.

Chris Agnew filmed his amusing Do the Meerkat song on Portobello beach last month, which saw several locals dress up as the furry creature.

Now the songwriter, who has played with Dougie MacLean and The Rezillos, hopes it will become an internet sensation.

Although the song – which features the chorus “do the turn, if the coast is clear, you can crouch back down” – is satirical, it has been filmed and recorded to a high quality.
