Mechanic on knife charge

A MECHANIC who lost his job drowned his sorrows and armed himself with a knife, a court heard. John Crawford, 20, then dialled 999 to tell police he was planning to kill himself.

They found him standing in the street in Addiewell, West Lothian, just after 4am. He put his hands in the air in a gesture of surrender and told them he had a knife. Police found a kitchen knife in his jeans.

Crawford, of Meadowhead Avenue, Addiewell, admitted having a knife in a public place. Sheriff Graeme Fleming imposed a 12-month supervision order.
