Massive wind turbine felled

A MASSIVE wind turbine planned for Corstorphine Hill has been refused on the grounds that it would amount to "a large unjustified alien structure" on the landscape.

The owners of a Cold War nuclear bunker on the site had applied to build a 99ft turbine to raise money for the bunker's restoration and eventual reopening as a tourist attraction.

However, earlier this month The News reported that owners had all but given up hope of the plans ever seeing the light of day following a raft of objections.

And councillors finally threw out the proposals this week.

Head of planning John Bury said: "The proposed wind turbine will introduce a large unjustified alien structure within this area of prominent green belt."
