Marriot soon to be in residence

THE Marriott hotel chain has chosen Edinburgh's upmarket Quartermile development to establish its first aparthotel in Europe.

The 107-bed Residence Inn is due to open at the end of this summer at the 450 million development, which is situated on the site of the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Residence Inns feature spacious suites with separate living and sleeping areas.

Gladedale Capital, which operates the site, said the city's high hotel occupancy rates make the city a draw for the big hotel groups.

Amy McPherson, president and managing director for Marriott International in Europe, said: "We are thrilled to announce our first Residence Inn in the UK here in Edinburgh and see great potential for development of the brand throughout Europe."
