Marking Bum the Dog Day

A CELEBRATION will be held next month to mark the 112th anniversary of the death of popular San Diego pooch Bum, whose story inspired city fathers to erect a statue in his honour.

A bash at St Cuthbert's Church hall, which sits next to a statue of Bum at West Princes Street Gardens, will be held on the anniversary of his November 1898 death.

Said to be the American equivalent to Greyfriars Bobby, the St Bernard-Spanish cross earned the freedom of San Diego for his bravery and character.
