Market murals bringing businesses a brush with profits

A PAINT project which transformed a deprived part of the Capital has bought economic benefits to the area.

The previously run-down Broomhouse Market, in south west Edinburgh, was
brightened up by the Broomhouse Health Strategy Group, which obtained grants and 250 litres of paint from Dulux under a community scheme.

And the bright murals, which were painted by
volunteers over 450 square metres of wall space, have increased footfall in the area, benefiting local businesses.

Lucy Aitchison, project co-ordinator for the Broomhouse Health Strategy Group, said: “We’re seeing a lot more new faces in the area, which is really heartening.

“It’s an amazing example of community empowerment – the local community came together to make it happen.”
