A MAN killed in a car crash on Saturday has been named as an ex-boxer previously jailed for 13 years for assault.

Mark Kelbie, from Edinburgh, lost control of his vehicle at around 5am yesterday on the A915 between Upper Largo and Largoward in Fife.

Doctors at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, were unable to save him.

A 24-year-old man, who was in the BMW with Kelbie at the time, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, although his life is not thought to be in danger.

Kelbie was jailed for 13 years in 2005 after he and a friend attacked father-of-three John Rush with a baseball bat, then kicked and stamped on his head.

The attack followed a row over use of a mobile phone.

Mr Rush was left in a coma and later died from his injuries at the age of 37.

Kelbie’s family said in a statement: “Mark was a loving son, father and husband who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.”
