Marine's run for memorial

A MARINE has run over 80 miles to raise money for a memorial garden for his fallen comrades before he retires to run a Capital restaurant.

Edinburgh-born Mario Gagliardini ran from Arbroath to Edinburgh Castle on Monday for the Royal Marines' Woodland Memorial Project at the RM Condor base in Angus.

The run has symbolic value for Mr Gagliardini, who will shortly retire from the Arbroath-based 45 Commando to take the reigns at Broughton's Locanda de Gusti restaurant.

He will take over the business side of the East London Street restaurant from former owner Rosario Sartore. The restaurant also sponsored his bid.
