Margo is willing to amend her bill on assisted dying

Margo MacDonald says she is willing to amend her own bill on assisted dying to make improvements to the proposed legislation.

The Independent Lothians MSP wants people with a terminal illness or a progressive degenerative condition to be able to ask for help to end their life if they feel their situation has become intolerable.

MSPs will start taking evidence on her bill at Scottish Parliament hearings next week.

Ms MacDonald said there was public support for the measure, but she said: "There are aspects I have had a chance to discuss with medical professionals and people who have long-term degenerative conditions.

"I am more than willing to introduce some amendments myself if I think we can improve it. There is no false pride about this."

The Humanist Society of Scotland has launched a website in support the bill, www.letmechoose.org.uk
