Marathon runners 'had enough water'

MARATHON organisers have responded to allegations that they failed to provide enough water for Sunday's race.

Runners complained that some water stations had run dry, with one alleging that "people were dropping like flies".

A spokesman for the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon confirmed that a water station was out of water for a short time.

He said: "There was temporary shortage at one of our water stations. According to our own source this could not have been for more than half an hour.

"We asked police and ambulance crews to provide water further down the line for people who may have passed the water point while it was out of water.

"We had 10,000 bottles of water and 15,000 bottles of Lucozade left at the end of the marathon, so it would be incorrect to say that we ran out of water.

"The number of people in need of medical attention was roughly the same as last year."
