Man's stash of fake discs worth £200,000

A MAN has admitted having a stash of 4000 fake CDs and DVDs worth around £200,000.

Paul McPhillips, 41, was snared after the music authorities received confidential information that he was involved in the distribution of counterfeit illegal music and was a major player in this.

Fiscal depute Isabel Clark told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that McPhillips had carried out the business from his council flat at Greendykes House, Greendykes Road, via the internet.

First offender McPhillips admitted making, offering and supplying counterfeit and unauthorised music goods under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, between June 1, 2007, and July 1, 2009.

He also admitted possessing equipment for making the copies for sale.

Sheriff Frank Crowe deferred sentence for background reports until next month.
