Man's body may have been lying in flat for months, say police

A POLICE investigation has been launched after the discovery of a dead man in a flat who may have been lying there for months.

Officers are appealing to the public for help in identifying the man, whose body was badly decomposed.

Worried neighbours raised the alarm on Friday, prompting officers to force the door of the flat in Old Dumbarton Road in Glasgow's Yorkhill district, where the discovery was made.

A postmortem examination was carried out and police have now confirmed they are treating the death as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Willie Park, City Centre and West Division CID, said: "We believe the man, who is still unidentified, may have been lying in the flat for a considerable time - possibly a number of months.

"We need to find out from the public who lived in the flat and who frequented it."

The door had not been forced and police want to hear from anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious.

They also want to know if anyone can think of someone they used to see on a regular basis, maybe in a shop, pub or bookies, who has not been about for a while.

DI Park added: "Maybe he was due to visit a doctor, dentist or has not been paying bills, or there was no answer when, for example, utility companies, sales people or charities attended at the flat.

"We want people to come forward so that we can identify him and piece together his life and find out exactly what happened to him."
