Man's body found on Arthur's Seat

A MOUNTAIN rescue team yesterday recovered the body of man discovered near the summit of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh.

Lothian and Borders Police said the body was that of a male, believed to be in his forties.

An emergency call was made to the police at about 10pm on Sunday after the body was discovered by a member of the public in the Dry Dam area.

Police investigated and confirmed a short time later that a body had been found.

They were unable to remove it from the hillside immediately because of the inaccessibility of the area.

Hundreds of people climbed Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags on Sunday night to watch the Bank of Scotland Fireworks, marking the end of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Rescuers were on site for five hours yesterday afternoon, and the body was eventually recovered at about 2:30pm.

Police said the man's death is being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today.

In a separate incident in Edinburgh yesterday, rescuers went to the aid of a teenager who fell from a bridge.

The incident occurred at Grotto Bridge on the Cammo Estate in the Barnton area at about 3.30pm.
