Manager attacked over allegations

A SHOPKEEPER was attacked by a thug while another threatened to set his Kirkliston store on fire after the two men heard untrue allegations he had “inappropriately touched” a young woman.

James Goodfellow, 21, of Marshall Road, Kirkliston, punched Imitiaz Ahmad repeatedly on the face in front of two children at the Star Store in Liston Place on October 28 last year. A short time later, 48-year-old David Robertson of Cotlaws, Kirkliston, arrived.

Fiscal Depute, Michelle Young, said Robertson had dialled 999 and told police he was on his way to the store. Officers arrived to find him holding two lit lighters and a strong smell of inflammable liquid.

Sentence on Goodfellow was deferred. Robertson was given an 18-month community payback order.
