Man turns toilet into Star Wars shrine

Joiner Eric Blair, 57, previously registered as a Jedi in the census and even persuaded his wife to walk down the aisle to John Williams’ famed theme tune.

But his fascination with Star Wars has gone so far that he has now started to transform their home in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

Eric, who is a dad-of-two, said: “I’m a nut-job who just likes making things. I have always loved science fiction. When Star Wars came out, it was just so way ahead of its time.

“All your modern films would never have been made now if it hadn’t been for George Lucas and Star Wars.

“It took me two weeks to build the bathroom. I was in there every night and at the weekend putting it together.

“I’ve got it all planned out in my head so I know what I’m doing. I can visualise it.

“I think it’s a nice bit of fun and I am very pleased with it. Everybody who has seen it has said it’s brilliant.”

Eric’s bathroom sink was made from a slice of granite with the addition of a basin made from an old Ford Zetec engine.

The wacky construction is supported by Darth Vader’s lightsaber which has been made to look as if it is cutting through the granite.

It even makes noises when visitors use the sink and enter the bathroom.

Eric said: “I bought the lightsaber from Toys R Us and it is actually a steel pole meant for a hanging rail that I converted.

“It is holding up the work top and I thought ‘How could I disguise that?’.

“It is just a standard toilet that is in there just now, but I am looking to put a transfer on it with the words ‘In a galaxy far far away’.”

Eric even built a Millennium Falcon mirror from scratch by carving and painting it to look like one of his favourite star ships.

The bathroom also includes a Stormtrooper helmet and signed pictures on the wall from some of the film cast along with models of Darth Vader and R2-D2.

Eric has also put up a picture of his prized R2-D2 barbeque which he made from scratch in 2013.

He built the charcoal barbecue version of the popular little droid using aluminium and parts scavenged from various outdoor grills.

Eric, who owns 42 Star Wars T-shirts, said he is looking forward to the new films, directed by J.J. Abrams, which are expected to hit cinemas later this year.

He added: “I’ve got a collection of T-shirts that I wear all the time. I have 42 Star Wars T-shirts so the kids are fine, they know what to buy me every Christmas.

“I’m looking forward to the new Star Wars films coming out. Hopefully they are going to be good. It is looking promising.”
