Man tries to handcuff OAP, 89

A MAN who tried to handcuff a 89-year-old pensioner as he walked through woodland is being sought by police.

The elderly man was walking through a wooded area between Ochiltree Crescent and the dual carriageway in Mid Calder, West Lothian at around 1.20pm on Wednesday.

He became aware of a man walking behind him, and the suspect then attempted to place a metal handcuff on the victim's wrist.

The elderly man warned the suspect off, who then fled in the direction of Ochiltree Crescent.

The suspect is described as white, early 30s with a medium build and clean-shaven. He was wearing jeans and a grey top, spoke with a local accent, and was carrying a blue plastic bag.

A police spokesman said: "This is a very unusual incident and it is not clear what the male's intentions were."
