The worker was suspended for 20 days without pay, partly for speaking to a customer on an information technology support line in the style of a robot.

New York City’s Civil Service Commission upheld the suspension this month.

An administrative law judge’s report said the Health Department worker told callers ‘you have reached the help desk’ in what was described as an ‘over-enunciated monotone.’

Callers to the help line complained, with one even hanging up before calling back saying she needed to ‘speak to a human’.

The judge described the man as a ‘disgruntled employee’ acting out.
