Man steals bike and is hit by bus during getaway

A BICYCLE thief was hit by a bus just moments after stealing the bike which was parked outside a shop.

Police and paramedics were called to the corner of Nicolson Street and West Nicolson Street, in the Southside, at 11.10am today after the cyclist collided with a bus while riding the stolen bike.

The 42-year-old man was looked at by paramedics at the scene before being taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment for minor injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to Nicolson Street following a report of a collision between a cyclist and a Lothian bus.

“The 42 year old man was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for minor injuries and was subsequently charged with theft of the bike.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
