Man slashed and robbed in city park

A MAN was slashed and robbed of his phone and wallet in a city park.

Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was assaulted in West Pilton Park on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old was walking over the grassy area near the Astroturf football pitches at 10.30pm, when two men approached him from behind.

The pair knocked him to the ground and the man thought he was punched before they ran off.

It quickly emerged he had been slashed, and his phone and wallet stolen. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspects are described as being white, of medium build and were wearing dark clothing.

A police spokesperson said: "The information we have is limited, so we would ask for anyone who was in the area on Wednesday night and who may have seen two men acting suspiciously to come forward.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the attack as a matter of urgency."
