A MAN has been seriously injured after being shot and stabbed in an Edinburgh pub.

Emergency services were called to Jock's Lodge Bar at the junction of Willowbrae Road and Piershill following the attack, which happened at about 8:30 last night.

The victim, who is 24, was taken to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, where his condition was last night described as being "serious but stable".

No-one else was hurt in the air-rifle attack, and sources said the incident was linked to a long- running feud between two families.

Police cordoned off the area surrounding the pub, and drinkers were questioned about the incident.

Surrounding pubs were also closed as police launched an investigation, questioning bar customers.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said the victim was shot three times in the face before being stabbed.

"It's terrible this man just came into the pub with a gun, shot him three times in the face and then stabbed him."

Lothian and Borders Police have launched an investigation following the attack.

A spokesman said: "An investigation is under way following a shooting that happened within the Jock's Lodge public house at around 8:30pm this evening.

"The victim, who is a 24-year-old male, has been taken to hospital for treatment and is currently in a serious but stable condition."
