Man scarred for life after Glasgow bottle attack

A MAN will be left scarred for life after he was hit in the face with a bottle during a large-scale disturbance outside a bar, police said today.

The 27-year-old was subjected to the "particularly violent attack" in the early hours of this morning after a night out with friends.

Police said the victim was assaulted outside BJ's bar in Crow Road, in the west end of Glasgow, at around 2.25am.

During the attack, he was struck by the bottle and suffered a serious injury to his face.

He was taken by ambulance to the city's Western Infirmary and was later transferred to the Southern General Hospital, where he is to have surgery. His condition is described as stable.

Strathclyde Police said the male suspect fled in an unknown direction, along with other people thought to have been involved.

The suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 6in, of thin build, with dark brown spiky hair shaven into a 'V' shape at the back. He was wearing a blue tracksuit top, white shorts and white trainers.

Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi said it was not yet clear how many people were involved.

Urging anyone with information to come forward as a matter of urgency, he said: "This was a particularly violent attack and this young man has received a horrendous injury - an injury which will leave him scarred for life.

"Enquiries are at an early stage and at this time it is unclear exactly how many people were involved.

"However, we do know that those involved in the attack had also been in BJ's bar and had spoken with the victim earlier on in the evening."
