Man on sex charge freed

A MAN accused of a serious sexual assault on an 18-year-old girl in Bathgate has been freed from custody pending further inquiries.

The 19-year-old was arrested, charged and remanded in custody by police last Friday, a week after the alleged incident in the Acredale Car Park behind the town's shopping precinct in George Street. He was due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday but did not appear in the dock.

The victim reported being attacked on her way home after a night out with friends at The Twig nightclub.
