Man missing for week found by his sons on hill

THE sons of a surveyor who went missing for more than a week have described the moment they spotted him on a remote hill track.

Richard Lyon, 59, below, from Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, was last seen at around 7am on Tuesday, 2 August.

He posted his car and house keys to the family home on 4 August.

Lyon's son David had flown to Scotland from Australia to make a television appeal and join the search along with his brother Iain.

They found him wandering alone near Balquhidder in Perthshire.

David, 30, said: "When we saw him, we both said: 'Oh my God, is that Dad?' It was like a dream. We couldn't believe our eyes."

David said they went to the area on a "hunch" after listing places where his father may have gone hillwalking.

Richard Lyon's wife Noreen added: "I can't believe he's home. It's a miracle."

A Facebook group created to appeal for information on Lyon's whereabouts attracted support from more than 2,500 people.

A message put on the page yesterday by the family said: "It has been an incredibly trying time for all. However, with a good dollop of positive thinking and some amazing people, we've managed to get my dad home."
