Man killed by car after stepping out in front of security van

A 35-YEAR-OLD man has died after being hit by a car, police said yesterday. The accident happened at 8:55am on South Gyle Crescent in Edinburgh.

The man was crossing the road and had stepped out from behind a G4S security van when a grey car struck him.

The driver stopped immediately and paramedics were called, but the man died at the scene. The road was closed for around two hours as an investigation was carried out.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: "Tragically, this collision has resulted in the victim suffering fatal injuries and we are now piecing together the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Anyone who was on South Gyle Crescent and witnessed the man being struck is asked to contact police immediately. We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the G4S van, who was not involved in the collision but may have been near his vehicle at the time and can help with our investigation."
