Man jailed for street attack on stranger

A MAN has been jailed for 45 months after subjecting a stranger to a terrifying attack when she spurned his cash for sex offers.

Daniel Conroy followed the 28-year-old woman off a night bus on Moredun Park Road, grabbed her from behind and told her not to move as she would be stabbed. He then offered her money to have sex with him, and when she refused subjected her to a violent assault.

Conroy, 22,? of Craigour Crescent, Edinburgh, was originally charged with assaulting the woman with intent to rape her on May 13 this year. But the Crown accepted his guilty plea to a reduced charge of assaulting the woman to her injury.

Judge Lord Kinclaven said he was satisfied that there was "a significant sexual aspect" to Conroy's behaviour in committing the assault and ordered he should be placed on the sex offenders register.
