Man jailed for stamping puppies to death

A MAN has been jailed after stamping two puppies to death in drunken attack.

Stuart Adams, of Stevenson Avenue, Edinburgh appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today before Sheriff Isabella McColl, who told him: "I have never come across anything like that before".

Adams, 36, had pled guilty to assaulting Lorraine Hogg on January 22 this year and to causing the two puppies unnecessary suffering.

Fiscal Depute, Claire Bottomley, said it was about half past midnight when an argument arose between Adams and Ms Hogg.

Adams had consumed an amount of drink.

He punched Ms Hogg, causing her to hit her head on a cupboard door.

Ms Hogg's dog, a cross between a Stafforshire Terrier and a collie, ran to protect its mistress.

The Fiscal said Adams kicked the dog and made his way to where her litter of eight two-week puppies lay. He then stamped two of them to death.

Defence solicitor, Kim Schofield, said drink had played a very large role in the affair.

Her client, she said, had shown a very high level of remorse and had been very distressed by the narration.

While on remand in Saughton he had been the target of other prisoners.

Sheriff McColl jailed Adams for nine months and imposed a life-long ban on him keeping any animals.
