Man jailed for life over fatal stabbing

A MAN was sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday after being found guilty of murder in an incident alleged to have been related to a gang feud.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that David Donnachie, 25, bled to death within minutes of being stabbed in Kintyre Street, in the city, on 18 July last year. Jamie Coughlan, 22, plunged a blade through his victim's neck, severing the jugular vein and carotid artery.

Ordering Coughlan to serve a minimum of 18 years, temporary judge Norman Ritchie attacked the knife culture in Scotland, saying: "A life was taken because you carried a knife and were prepared to use it."

During the trial it was alleged that a feud between the Dennistoun Monks and the Royston Shamrocks gangs had led to Mr Donnachie's death, though everyone involved denied being members.
