Man jailed for hotel damage

A DRUNKEN Edinburgh man who went on the rampage in a Borders hotel has been jailed for 60 days.

Lee Graham was offered a room for the night following a day's drinking in the St Ronan's Hotel in Innerleithen, Peeblesshire, last month.

But when staff appeared in the morning, they found the lounge bar of the High Street premises had been wrecked, Peebles Sheriff Court was told.

Graham of Oxgangs Street, had broken tables, smashed glasses and bottles and attempted to break open the till.

Mark Keane, prosecuting, said: "He became intoxicated in the bar and was offered a bed for the night by the proprietor.

"The following morning the accused was found at the door of the main bar – it was a scene of devastation with tables, bottles and glasses smashed. The till was also badly damaged."

Graham admitted causing around 1200 worth of damage during the drunken rampage.

Defence lawyer Iain Burke said: "He accepts responsibility but doesn't know why he behaved like he did.

"He can only put it down to being heavily intoxicated."

Sheriff Neil MacKinnon back-dated the 60 day jail sentence to 19 April when Graham was arrested and taken into custody.
