Man jailed for attacking his partner in hostel room

A MAN has been jailed for four months after being found guilty of attacking his partner in a Leith hostel.

William Hodge, 39, was convicted of grabbing Cheryl Thomas by the throat during an argument at the Dunedin Harbour hostel in Parliament Street on September 3.

A trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday heard evidence from Ms Thomas that Hodge had seized her throat for "about 20 seconds" before she broke free.

The court heard that Ms Thomas had been in another hostel room with 35-year-old Scott Alexander when Hodge burst in at around 2am.

Hodge was sentenced to four months in prison.
