Man in hospital after bus stop attack

A MAN was taken to hospital suffering from a cut above his eye after being punched in the face while standing at a bus stop.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault on a 41-year-old man in East Lothian.

The "random" attack happened at around 10.50pm on 5 March as the man was standing at a bus stop outside the Royal Bank of Scotland on Main Street, Newtongrange.

He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to a male and female who were known to be in the area at the time of the assault.

The suspect is described as male, white, 6ft tall and in his thirties. He had dark hair and was wearing a white top.

A police spokesman said: "This appears to be a random assault that left the victim with a painful injury to his face that required medical attention.

"Anyone who was on Main Street around 10.50pm on Friday and witnessed the assault is asked to contact police immediately.
