Man in court over sexual assault charge

A MAN has appeared in court in connection with an alleged rape in Livingston, West Lothian.

Andrew Hamilton, 23, from Livingston, appeared on petition in private at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He made no plea or declaration during a brief hearing before Sheriff Grahame Fleming QC and was remanded in custody pending further inquiries.

Hamilton faces a charge relating to a serious sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman in Howden Road West, near St John's Hospital, Livingston, last Wednesday, 12 May.

Lothian and Borders Police forensics officers cordoned off the area and carried out a detailed search after the alleged attack.

Police said they were still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have information.
