Man in court over Martin Hughes murder

A MAN today appeared in court accused of murdering 33-year-old Martin Hughes.

Robert Melvin, 30, faced the charge at a brief appearance in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Defence solicitor advocate David Allan made no plea or declaration on his behalf and the case was continued for further inquiry. Sheriff Derrick McIntyre remanded Melvin in custody.

Mr Hughes, who lived in the Wester Hailes Park area of the city, died on Monday.

Police were called to the area at about 3pm and Mr Hughes was found injured in the street. He was taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but he later died from his injuries.
