Man in court on pub murder charge

A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder following the death of a 40-year-old, after a disturbance near a pub.

David McCardle, from Musselburgh in East Lothian, was found with serious head injuries after the fracas near the Clubhouse pub in the town’s North High Street on Friday night.

Mr McCardle later died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. A 47-year-old man who was injured in the incident remains in a serious condition at the hospital.

A 24-year-old man found with head injuries in Stoneybank Gardens North in the hours after the incident is in a serious condition at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.

Ross Tait, 21, appeared in private at Haddington Sheriff Court yesterday, charged with murder.

Tait, of Musselburgh, also faced two further charges; one of assault and another of assault to severe injury and to the danger of life.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody, the Crown Office said.

He is expected back in court in a week’s time.

Detective Inspector John Peaston said: “We are continuing to appeal for information regarding the incident, and it is imperative that any witnesses get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
