Man hurt after gang attacks twice in one night

A MAN was left with injuries to his eye and mouth after being attacked by a group of men twice on the same night.

The 26-year-old was making his way home when he became involved in an argument with three men near to the Royal Hotel in Penicuik's High Street.

The victim was headbutted in the first assault at around 12.15am on Monday.

It is believed a woman wearing a white and red jacket offered assistance and she may be able to assist officers with their enquiries.

The victim then walked past a nearby doctor's surgery before cutting through the wooded area leading to Eskhill when the suspects attacked him again.

He suffered a deep cut under his left eye and an injury to his mouth.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are now following a positive line of inquiry to identify those responsible."
